History
During the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was founded by an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology by Anton Raky. The first company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling equipment. In 1986, the company purchased the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the following years.
