Forklift Parts in More Detail
There are hundreds of components which make up a lift truck. The forklifts major parts consist of the frame of the truck, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. In addition, a lift truck has different kinds of attachments. All the components which make up a forklift are all essential since they work together to make the operation of the machine possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe a few of the forklift parts in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the equipment operator while she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would damage the controls in the cab or hurt the driver. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on several units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle, the mast is the vertical forklift part made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move upwards and down whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails may either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast could be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the part that the forks and other types of attachments are mounted to. Actually, the carriage is directly connected to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. In order to allow the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - When the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - There are various kinds of attachments which can be fixed directly to the forklifts carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. Moreover, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and and all that. These various attachments are helpful for moving different kinds of loads.
