There are two standard types of forklifts, models which run on gas and models which run on electricity:
Internal Combustion Lift trucks: The Internal Combustion Lift Trucks run on liquid propane, gas, CNG or compressed natural gas or diesel. The gas powered models are meant to be used outdoors since they produce pollutants and gases that can be dangerous if inhaled. Gas models are also great to be used in bad weather conditions and in the rain. These models can carry weights approximately 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Because of the fuel expenses and maintenance, the gas powered units are a lot more expensive to use than models which run on electricity, although, they cost less up front than the electric models. Models that run on liquid propane are the best option for safe use in indoor applications.
Electric Lift Trucks: Electric forklifts take batteries that require frequent charging. As these models do not burn any fuel, there are no emissions polluting the air with these machines. They are the right alternative for warehouses and indoor use. As well, lift trucks which run on electricity are a lot quieter to run compared to other units and they do not require any fuel storage units. One of the disadvantages of the electric units is that they are unable to lift loads more than 15,000 pounds and thus, have a slower acceleration compared to gasoline powered models.
The lift truck is particularly made to transport things and supplies quickly and easily. Accidents do happen frequently as is the case with most types of equipments. There are some safety rules that need to be followed to be able to keep everyone safe. The most vital problem is recruiting a trained operator, who could show you a valid lift truck license.
On the market nowadays, there are numerous different types of forklifts available. Choosing which one is right for your specific needs will be based on the kind of environment your machine will have to operate in, like for instance, indoors or outdoors or both and what kinds of loads that you need to transport. When you know your specific needs, it would be easy to match up to the right type of forklift. When you understand your needs exactly you will be able to make a correct decision.
Leasing is another great way to try out different models if you want to try out different features and see what type of options are available. This is a less expensive way to determine if the kind of equipment you have in mind can keep up with you on the job site.
