The Liebherr family business was created in the year 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The company first gained fame from its mobile tower crane which was noted for its affordability and ease of assembly. It was upon this invention that the foundation of the company flourished under. Today, The Liebherr business has grown to become amongst the top manufacturers within the world of construction machinery. The business has also gained the reputation of being the acknowledged provider of user-oriented technically innovative services and products in various fields. The business has now become a "Group" working in every continent with over 35,000 workers and over 130 companies across the globe.
In order to ensure a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into various company units. These units have been designed to operate separately. This set up allows the business the ability to stay in tune with worldwide competition and be flexible to market signals. Liebherr has instituted the divisional control companies to be able to deal with the management operations of production and sales for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group currently has ten different product divisions.
Liebherr-International AG is the Liebherr Group's holding company. They are situated in Bulle, Switzerland and are completely owned by the Liebherr family members. Now, the family business is being managed in the second generation by Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr and her brother Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr. Since the year 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by 3rd generation members of the family like: Sophie Albrecht, Jan Liebherr, Stefanie Wohlfarth and Patricia Ruf. These family members have been working together to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of residential buildings and large-scale industrial projects all around the globe.
Hans Liebherr started to build his company in the year 1949, within a small town known as Kirchdorf in southern Germany. Kirchdorf, currently supports one of Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They can average a yearly output of approximately 2800 wheeled excavators and employ more than 1400 people in that particular workforce.
